Constraints on Moon's Orbit 3.2 Billion Years Ago From Tidal Bundle Data

چکیده
The angular momentum of the Earth-Moon system was initially dominated by Earth's rotation with a short solar day around 5 hours duration. Since then, Earth gradually transferred through tidal friction to orbit Moon, resulting in an increasing orbital radius and deceleration rotation. Geologic observations deposits can be used verify constrain models lunar evolution. In this work we reexamine oldest record suitable for analysis from Moodies Group, South Africa, age 3.22 billion years. Time frequency series thicknesses sandstone-shale layers yields periodicity 15.0 layers, taking into account possibility missing laminae. Assuming mixed system, duration two neap-spring-neap cycles 30.0 days dominant semidiurnal or sidereal diurnal tides. We derive relationship between observation past distance re-visit related published work. find that 3.2 years ago about 70% today's value. Archean 13 long. ratio tide-raising torque controls leakage but deviation assumed 0.211 results only moderate changes. A postulated 21-hour atmospheric resonance shorter than 200 million would consistent our observation; it significantly alter distance.

Early formation of the Moon 4.51 billion years ago
Establishing the age of the Moon is critical to understanding solar system evolution and the formation of rocky planets, including Earth. However, despite its importance, the age of the Moon has never been accurately determined. We present uranium-lead dating of Apollo 14 zircon fragments that yield highly precise, concordant ages, demonstrating that they are robust against postcrystallization ...
متن کامل0 The nuclear interaction at Oklo 2 billion years ago ∗
We re-examine the effort to constrain the time-variability of the coupling constants of the fundamental interactions by studying the anomalous isotopic abundance of Sm observed at the remnants of the natural reactors which were in operation at Oklo about 2 billion years ago, in terms of a possible deviation of the resonance energy from the value observed today. We rely on new samples that were ...
متن کاملOrbital forcing of climate 1.4 billion years ago.
Fluctuating climate is a hallmark of Earth. As one transcends deep into Earth time, however, both the evidence for and the causes of climate change become difficult to establish. We report geochemical and sedimentological evidence for repeated, short-term climate fluctuations from the exceptionally well-preserved ∼1.4-billion-year-old Xiamaling Formation of the North China Craton. We observe tw...

We re-examine Shlyakhter’s effort to constrain the time-variability of the coupling constants of the fundamental interactions by studying the anomalous isotopic abundance of Sm observed at the remnants of the natural reactors which were in operation at Oklo about 2 billion years ago. We rely on new samples that were carefully collected to minimize natural contamination and also on a careful tem...
متن کاملRapid oxygenation of Earth’s atmosphere 2.33 billion years ago
Molecular oxygen (O2) is, and has been, a primary driver of biological evolution and shapes the contemporary landscape of Earth's biogeochemical cycles. Although "whiffs" of oxygen have been documented in the Archean atmosphere, substantial O2 did not accumulate irreversibly until the Early Paleoproterozoic, during what has been termed the Great Oxygenation Event (GOE). The timing of the GOE an...
